Although adept at pursuing, defending and resolving any commercial dispute, Darren’s specialist expertise lies in contentious real estate work.  That means often complex and/or high value disputes between landlords and tenants, neighbours, developers and land owners.  It also extends to giving non-contentious advice where specialist knowledge is needed of statutes or case law dealing with interpretation of documents and existing easements, rights and liabilities relating in any way to land and buildings.

Darren has acted (usually for the successful party) in reported cases involving issues of contract law, rights of light, conditional break notices, judicial review and joint ventures between land owners and developers.  He is experienced in using all forms of alternative dispute resolution, including representing clients at mediations.  Compulsory purchase orders are an expertise, as is dealing with professional negligence in the real estate sector.

Darren is an active member of the Property Litigation Association and has completed the training and assessment stage of qualifying as a solicitor-advocate.

He is now working with our real estate clients across the full range of disputes, both ongoing and anticipated.  He provides strategic advice to property-owners and developers as to how best to steer negotiations so as to optimise the client’s position.
